The start of Gwinnett County’s Stop Light Program at Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Singleton Road began Monday 4/11/05. The Gwinnett County Police Department began issuing warnings on Friday 04/15/05.
From Friday 04/15/05, to Friday 04/22/05, we have documented 520 stop light violations. Of those violations, 500 were deemed prosecutable by the officers who reviewed those photographs. 500 vehicle owners will be receiving warnings in the mail. Actual citations will be issued starting Saturday 05/15/05.
The attached photographs documents seven motor vehicles that chose to run the red light and are blocking the intersection. This is a prime example of the on-going problems experienced at that intersection, and how beneficial this camera system will be in providing additional safety for the citizens of Gwinnett County. Anyone can see the challenge it would be for a single patrol officer to pullover all seven vehicles. Past research supports our hopes that with this system and the current warnings being issued, events such as this will dramatically reduce.
